The CSSL Leadership team discussed the surf forecast for this weekend.  It is getting smaller tomorrow and even smaller on Sunday.  The Point has been and hopefully will continue to be a little bigger than The Hook, so Sunday for high school at The Point will hopefully at least be surfable in comparison to The Hook.  Our permit does not allow us to have back to back contest days at the same venue, so we HAVE to have one day at The Point and one day at The Hook.  If this was not the case, we would just move the entire contest to The Point.

Can Mission Hill stay UNDEFEATED? Will Hunter Murison over-take Richie Schmidt in the Boy’s Shortboard Division? And Can Selah Bartlett win the Girl’s Shortboard Division for the second year in a row? Cate Ratliff will have something to say about that! What about rookie ripper, Sam Coffey? Can he hold of Myles Gutgesell in the Bodyboard Division? Richie Schmidt has the Boys Longboard Division on lock! It’s now a race for second place between Hunter Murison and Sam Coffey with several other surfers within striking distance! Lastly, on the Girls Longboard front, Selah Bartlett will need to finish fourth or worse in her first heat of the day and Kaira Wallace will have to win the contest to tie Selah for the Girls Longboard title! What better way to wrap up the regular season than at the Point in late January!

Sunday, January 29th – High School at the Hook with one more comp to go at the Lane in early February.

Matt Myers has been involved with The Core since he was a grom. We remember him as a stand out middle school and high school shredder in the CSSL (formerly ISF) surf contests. Most recently you’ve seen him in the judges tent and heard him on the mic at our contests. For those of you who join in the mayhem of The Core events on Wednesday nights and throughout the year, you owe a huge thank you to Mr. Myers for all of his effort in helping make every Core event crazy fun!

Last month Rip Curl named Myers their new Team & Promotions Manager for the US! Matt’s primary responsibilities are to deal with the entire Rip Curl team for the West Coast, East Coast and Hawaii. In addition he will be running the Grom Search Surf Series and dealing with any promotional events that Rip Curl is associated with.

“The years I’ve spent as a member of the Core has given me valuable experience in many areas, which helped lead to my new position at Rip Curl” said Matt. “Including running surf events and weekly Core events, planning, meetings, acquiring sponsorships, hiring co-workers, and tons of other intangibles. Thanks so much to Kim for giving me the valuable experience and fun times that the Core provides!”

Professional surfer and past Cold Water Classic winner Kieran Horn will be imparting his knowledge on contest preparation and strategy.

Professional surfer and big wave charger Tyler Fox will talk to us about strength conditioning, stretching, and making yourself strong out of the water so that you will be stronger in the water.

O’Neill is also generously giving all clinic attendees a 20% off coupon to be used towards any O’Neill wetsuit!

CSSL 2011/12 season rolls on this weekend! The Middle School groms will be ripping Platforms in Aptos on Nov 19th and the High School kids will be competing at Manresa State Beach on Nov 20th. Surf forecast is looking good for this weekend. Stay tuned for updates.
